About project

The idea to design a new catamaran, capable of winning all races - absolutely or in Texel rate, has arisen during the Amber Cup 2004 race.

The fastest boat in Poland and Europe  was very often the Eagle Carbon 20 construction so far (created by Wojciech Kaliski). However in Texel rate races the winners were Formule 18 yachts.

Having finished 2004 regatta, Wojciech Kaliski, the author of the conception, initiator and constructor, started to act. He angaged the constructor Ryszard Partycki and sailors: Jakub Kopylowicz, Adam Skomski, Jacek Noetzel. The project assumed the construction of 2 catamarans. 2 two-man crews were supposed to train together, to trim and to improve equipment. The main task and test for catamaran and the crew will be the Round Texel race in Netherlands, where more than 600 catamarans of different construction will participate.

The project of hulls and crossbeams was created during winter 2004/2005. The construction of hulls was undertaken by Piotr Chomicz from Szczecinek, having big experience in construction of catamarans.

The first catamaran has been launched in Sopot in July and the second in August 2005. The first test was curried out by the wind force 5 B and pritty big waves. It was really impressive. One could hear the whistle of the rigging while sailing. The boat seemed to put up no resistance to the water. One could feel that boat was incredibly fast. Since August 2005 two-man crews of Exploder Sailing Team are regularly training and participating in coastal races, for which catamaran has been meant.

The first significant test for Exploders 20 was the race from Kolobrzeg to Sopot, where other boats had no chance to win. Another test was The Sea Championships of Poland Open, when both boats took first and second place.

For the winter season 2005/2006 Exploders 20 were transfered to National Sailing School in Quiberon, France, where 3 groupings took place. On the turn of April 2006 in Carnac, France Eurocat regatta was held. There were 400 catamarans participating in the race. Explders 20 took 1st and 11th place in their category, confirming their excellent  nautical properties and capability of racing and winning with best teams on the world.
