Exploder 20 catamarans in Round Texel
On 17th June the next edition of round the Dutch island Texel race took place. This is the biggest race of catamarans on the world. This year 2 teams on Exploder 20 catamarans participated in Round Texel: Jacek Noetzel/Wojciech Kaliski and Adam Skomski/Jakub Kopyłowicz.

Every year more than 500 catamarans of different classes are racing on the distance of 50 Nm. Each catamaran has it’s own handicap factor (Texel Rating) so the chances to win are same, at least theoretically. The event makes a good opportunity to compare all – old and the most modern constructions of catamarans. Several dozen thousands of fans and tourists are watching the race from beautiful, wide beaches and small ports of Texel island.

Exploder 20 catamaran, constructed specially for this race, was promising a very good result. However the start and the whole race as well was performed at  0 – 3B wind. There was a strong competition and the route, due to numerous shallows was rather difficult. After the start on a genacker course, with 1B wind, having several hundred of boats behind,  it was difficult to tear oneself free from the disturbed wind. Both Exploder 20 teams were sailing on similar positions until the first and second gate, which is approximately the middle of the race. Later Noetzel/Kaliski team has chosen the right side of the route and Skomski/Kopyłowicz team the left one, which resulted in different final positions: Noetzel/Kaliski team has finished the race at 21st position and Skomski/Kopyłowicz team at 45th position. We can evaluate the performance of Exploder Sailing Team at Round Texel at medium level but the boats have confirmed their big potential.

Round Texel results are available at www.roundtexel.com.

Before the main race Round Texel was performed, Exploder Sailing Team took place in Dutch Open race, that took place on the up and down route. After the second, very good day, Skomski/Kopyłowicz team finished the race on the 3rd position, in the excellent company: Bundock/Ashby and Heemskerk/Boer teams.
Noetzel/Kaliski team, after very good first day with strong wind, when they were 1st and 2nd and the second day – with the slight wind, finaly finished the race on the 7th position.

This classification confirms that Exploder is one of the fastest boats on the world at the wind 4-6B. It is also capable to compete with Formula 18 at the slight wind, which was proved by light Skomski/Kopyłowicz team.

The base port of Exploders  20 is Sopot. Therefore we invite to Sopot all interested catamaran fans for races organized by UKS NAVIGO:
